Report:
By 9am there were approx. 70 dogs on the books rising to 121 split between two sessions by the end of the day. Approximately £500.00 was raised towards the 2008 International Trial to be held in Kinmel Park, Abergele. The field at Ty Draw Farm, Bodfari provided an outrun of approx. 200yds and the sheep were sheared x- bred yearlings that generally worked very well.
In the morning session Alistair Gilchrist and Mac (K Donald's Joe and Tess) running at number 15, had a very good paced run but had a wide turn at the cross drive, placing him into a temporary 1st place while Cyril Humphries and Jill (I B Jones' Nap x G Watkins' Jess) running at no.19 had a sweet run losing their points mainly on deviation of lines. At no. 43, E Wyn Edwards ran Flash (M Marrey's Mot x W D James' Kay) followed by John Lightfoot with Taff (H D Pritchard's Ben x T Robert's Nell). Wyn and Flash lost on Outrun, Lift and Fetch to Cyril with Jill and John with Taff went on to take the lead losing just 3 points. Towards the end of the session father and son Gwyn LL Jones with Dafydd ( J Cropper's Sid x S Cropper's Fly) and Alan with Bet ( Alan's Sweep x Awel) finished 5th and 3rd respectively.
The afternoon session saw a change of judges and a change of course with a right hand drive. The sheep were somewhat sticky as the session progressed but improved later in the day. The winners coming from the late afternoon, Huw Owen with Roy (Serge van der Zweep's Roy x J R Griffith's Coed Lyn) pipped John Lightfoot from winning the double with Taff by one point. Just a further point behind was Alwyn Williams with locally bred Eryri Bob (E P Roberts' Bet x M L Evans' Chip). Vaughan Hughes with Black (Vaughan's Eryri Roi x Juno) slotted into 4th place just above Gwyn Jones, Penmachno with Cap ( A Lyttle's Roy x D J Lyttle's Kate) who succeeded in taking difficult sheep around the course. Missing two sheep on the cross drive spoilt an otherwise good run for Cyril Humphries with Jill putting him into 6th place. Osian Jones with Gwen , one of two up and coming young handlers competing at the trial, ably completed the course but was just out of the placings.
